It seems fitting that the building identified as the most suitable for Community House was formerly the hospital wing of the old workhouse, Allhallowgate, Ripon. Since the 1960's, the building has been used for storage only and become of poor internal repair, though still sound structurally.
As it is part of an historic site, the facade will remain substantially unaltered and it is envisaged that many of the original internal features will be retained. The building will be attractively internally decorated and furnished throughout. Ample car parking for people with disabilities will be provided, and there are on street parking and large public car parks nearby. Complementary landscaping will include a sensory garden.
Our counselling rooms are relaxed and informal and available on a session by session basis.
The facilities at Community House are complemented by landscaped surroundings and a specially created sensory garden. Plants have been specially chosen to perfume strongly as you brush by so those with poor eyesight can equally enjoy our beautiful surroundings.
State of the art facilities
Learning never stops and is a lifelong pursuit, whether training through a work scheme, or simply increasing your knowledge on a personal level. Our facilities for training and meetings are for all, and state of the art.
Rooms can be hired either on a sessional or continuous basis, and we will try to accommodate your requirements and make you and your colleagues feel as comfortable as possible. Refreshments can be pre-ordered from the community cafe, and Community House is close to Ripon's city centre and business community.
Tea and friends
Dora is 74; she has lived all her life in Ripon, raising 4 children. She was always known for her warm welcome and enjoyed meeting and chatting to her friends in town over tea. Dora is not able to do this now; severe arthritis in her legs has stopped her walking and so she has become increasingly housebound due to lack of mobility - this causes her great loneliness and frustration. Since the new Community House has been opened fully accessible to disabled people, Dora now has a place to meet her friends for a cup of tea or lunch, and feel part of the community once more.
