The Service
Families experiencing difficulties are offered both emotional and practical help by the Family Worker and her volunteers. This may range from sitting with the children to give a parent a much needed break, to giving a child going through a bad patch a chance to receive some individual attention. Where a need is identified, the family worker can set up specialist support groups or link in with other agencies.
The Volunteers
Volunteers do not need any special qualifications, but do need to be sensitive to the needs of children and families and non-judgmental in their approach. Volunteers for this project will need to undergo Criminal Records Bureau disclosures and be checked against the Child Protection Register.
