Some of the major pieces of work undertaken by Council for Voluntary Service

  • 1987 Cold Crisis Helpline
  • 1987 EEC food distribution – 8,584 people received allocations
  • 1987 Access Guide produced for people with disabilities in conjunction with City School (currently being updated)
  • 1988 Distributing and fixing security bolts for the elderly
  • distribution of noticeboards for the elderly
  • 1989 North Stainley play day
  • 1990 play days at Grantley
  • holidays for the victims of the Towyn flooding
  • Gulf Crisis – drivers, counsellors / people with listening skills provided; information on voluntary services sent to all MOD establishments
  • transport for children from Chernobyl visiting Healey Mill
  • worked on Rhythm of Life concert at the Cathedral with Time Together and other organisations
  • 1996 onwards – provided 60+ volunteers each year for Crucial Crew
  • 1999 recruited 120 volunteers to help with Kosovan refugees and handled all offers of help
  • 2001 Access Guide published (revised 2004)
